Things I'm Loving Thursday...Guatemalan Style!

In honor of my awesome mission trip to San Lucas, Guatemala (and a string of posts of about it), here are some of my favorite things about Guatemala...

Pasados Los Volcanos
Posados is where we stayed for the week we were in San Lucas.  Felipe and Marvilla were fabulous hosts with sweet servant's hearts.  They fed us VERY well and took excellent care of us!  I really enjoyed getting to know them!

El Lago de Atitlan

San Lucas sits on the shores of El Lago de Atitlan, a huge lake surrounded by mountains and volcanos in Guatemala with crystal clear water!  We enjoyed a peaceful boat ride across the lake on Saturday afternoon.  If I lived in San Lucas, I would spent a lot of time at the lago!

Terri, the Missionary

I. love. Terri.  She's AWESOME!  Terri has lived in Guatemala many years and has great relationships with the people that she works with.  She has so many different ministries going on in San Lucas, Toto, and other surrounding areas with widowed and abandoned moms and their children.  She has so much passion for the people of Guatemala to come to an understanding of what Christ has done for them.

New Guatemalan Friends

Jackie and Jessica (top left) are going to live in the house that I helped build last week.  They are 4 and 6.  LOTS of energy and TONS of giggles coming out of those two!  I had a lot of fun trying to speak Spanish with them and loving on them last week.  SO sweet.  Josue (top right, black shirt) is the brother of Jackie and Jessica.  Emerson (top right, red shirt) is their cousin.  I loved playing soccer with Josue and Emerson.  They are so sweet (and very good at soccer!)!  The bottom picture is most of the family that will live in the house we built-Basilia, Jackie, Heidi, Jessica, Josue, and Mario.  There are a couple of more kids in the family that weren't there for the dedication.  :)  This family was so thankful for this new, safe home for their family.  Mario and Basilia both told of how their former home was a sinkhole type of situation and that the kids would scream and cry everytime it rained.  They don't have to worry about that anymore...:)  They are leaders in the ministry there in San Lucas.  I can't wait to see what God does through this awesome family!

New American Friends

Loved getting to know some new friends and some old friends this week in San Lucas!  DeeAnna (bottom left in blue hat) and David (top right with no hat) are AWESOME!  David provided us with lots of entertainment on the trip, as did Christian (middle left)!  DeeAnna shared a room with Ashleigh (bottom left in white) and we enjoyed laughing about the days events, talking "church" and going to bed early (a woman after my own heart in that respect!!)!  Kendall (bottom right), Avery (top left), and I used to work in the Snack Shack together @ Pineywoods way back in the day.  I had a blast getting to catch up with them and serving with them throughout the week.  Sweet, sweet girls!  Jessica (middle right) and I went to Haiti together back in 2003 when we were in high school.  It was fun to reconnect and reminisce with her throughout the week!

I think that is all for now...more posts about Guatemala to come in the next couple of days...including ways that YOU can get involved!  :)  Hasta Luego!
